Hi, I'm Ben Houge, and this is my website. I'm an internationally active American artist operating at the nexus of music composition, video games, performance, sound installation, and digital art. If you want more details, check out my full bio, or to see what I've been up to lately, check out the news page. Or visit my blog, which isn't very well integrated into the rest of the site; I hope that will change someday.
Here are a few highlights:
- I am working on a series of food operas with chef Jason Bond, as featured on NPR.
- Last summer, I had a data visualisation piece up at the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion.
- I have another seven-channel video piece in rotation at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
-
I have another video piece up at Glamour Bar in Shanghai.
-
I currently teach video game music at Berklee College of Music.
-
I presented a paper on my game music work at
MUME 2012
on October 9.
-
I organized a pretty packed game music concert
at Berklee in September.
-
I had a sound installation up at OV Gallery in Shanghai, also in September.
-
I did several shows in China (where I lived from 2004-2010) in July and August.
-
My choral work "Lao Zhang" was premiered by Dale Warland in June.
-
I was an artist in residence at MIT in February 2012.
-
I headed up audio for Tom Clancy's EndWar
at Ubisoft Shanghai
from 2005-2008.
- I wrote the soundtrack for the RPG Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, which Forbes just listed as one of the top 12 video game soundtracks of all time, during the seven years I worked at Sierra. The music was also called out in PC Gamer's roundup of the top PC games of all time (Arcanum was #60).
